When Eidos Montreal announced the development of Thief 4 yesterday, general manager Stéphane D'Astous said that the game was in the "early development stages". It turns out that the game is yet to enter pre-production. D'Astous told inc gamers: "In the world of gaming there are mainly three phases – the concept, pre-production, and production – and right now we've reached our goals with the conceptual base, the story." He continued: "Obviously, the tough part is still to come, so the team will be ramping up, which is good news... So we'll be hiring approximately 40 people in the next six months: artists, programmers, designers, all the works. They'll be working on the next phase, which will be pre-production." D'Astous was also unable to confirm on which platforms the game is to be released, noting: "With the fast evolving world of hardware, there's a lot of things that will be happening in the following years so we need to be close to that." |

Guitar Hero is back! Activision's newly announced Guitar Hero 5 will hit stores this fall with "the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments, and difficulty levels on the fly." Let's hope this time they decided to make the game better than the one that came before it. Personally, I didn't think we'd see another one of these games, but Activision proved me wrong not once, but three times. That's right, there's two more "Hero" games coming out this fall as well. Band Hero is also announced. No, that's not Activision's copy of Rock Band; they already did that with Guitar Hero: World Tour. This is a dulled down, E10+ version of Guitar Hero. Created for the 20-30 families across the world that don't let their kids play the real Guitar Hero. This game is also going head to head with Harmonix' Lego Rock Band, which sounds way more fun, yet still childish (but still, it's Lego guitars!). Finally Activision's third "Hero" game is DJ Hero. A show of hands for everyone who saw this one coming (though I had my money on "Rap Hero")? It's going to include "diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica, and dance" and will "transform players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world's most exciting artists and DJs." The game will also feature a turntable controller. Picture below: So there it is, of the three new games Guitar Hero 5 is the one that actually shows a bit of promise, though I'm still waiting on "Country Hero" myself. |

The console wars, 3 massive companies battling for gamers' cash and interest. Rumor has it, it's about to become 4... Apple already came up with a console, several years back. Nothing fancy, just a little something for the engineers to tinker with, but it was enough. Rumors flew, the internet was in a frenzy, and everyone thought they'd enter the console market, but they didn't. Now they're back, and have given everyone reason to think they're seriously entering the game this time. Apple has stolen key staff from rival companies, such as Richard Teversham, the Senior Executive of the European Xbox operations with 15 years of experience. They've also acquired Bob Dreblin, the creator of Nintendo's Gamecube CPU and Mark Papermaster, a top IBM chip designer. As well as former AMD graphics chip CTO Raja Koduri. A companie wouldn't go through the trouble of hiring these experienced people unless they were planning something, something big. A source that chooses to remain anonymous recently had this to say about a possible Apple console: "Having your personal music integrated into a title, a 'natural' gesture multitouch interface, and a single online store that sells games, media, and video". While we have no confirmed facts other than Apple's new employees, this is something the gaming world should definitely keep their eyes on. |

Well Sega has unvieled 6 games in it's E3 lineup. Let's take a look, shall we? - Alpha Protocol
- Bayonetta
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (another one?)
- Planet 51
- The Conduit
- Vancouver 2010
These titles give us something to look forward to, mostly (c'mon, another Sonic game?). Though we're still missing some upcoming games here, such as Infinite Space, Sands of Destruction, Phantasy Star Zero, or any of the possibly upcoming Aliens games. While we hope Sega isn't going to keep us waiting on these titles and then not deliver at E3, there's nothing more we can do than wait and see. |
